Judi Silvano

Judi Silvano’s colorful history has led her from an early dance career and training as a classical singer, to becoming an accomplished jazz vocalist and composer, and to her first show as an “Emerging Artist” at the Wallkill River School in May 2013.

Silvano has toured internationally, singing in concert halls and festivals in Europe, South America, the Middle East and across America since the 1980’s.  She has recorded and toured with jazz greats Joe Lovano, Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Kenny Werner among others and plays music locally with Hudson Valley musicians.  In addition to releasing 12 albums of songs from the Great American Songbook plus her own Originals, she has been voted Best Jazz Singer in the Hudson Valley as well as a Top Ten Jazz Vocalist 4 times in Down Beat International Polls.  Silvano’s Chamber Music compositions have been performed on stages in New York City and Europe.

Silvano has been painting and drawing throughout her life and became a collector of art and artifacts from around the world with an appreciation for diverse cultures during her travels.  Since moving to the mid-Hudson Valley, she became a gardener and the magnificent natural surroundings rekindled her passion for painting.

With the encouragement of many accomplished painters in the area, Silvano’s evolution as a visual artist blossomed and her unique personal history in the arts comes together in her visual renderings.  She was awarded the Mary Evelyn Whitehill Award for one of her watercolors (Two Trees in Arrow Park) and First Prize for her Pastel (Seventh Avenue South at Night) in Newburgh’s Mt. St. Mary “Artists on Campus” shows.

Group Shows where Silvano has exhibited her Pastel, Watercolor, Oil and Encaustic paintings include: Art In Bloom at Newburgh’s Karpales Museum, Marlboro’s Art from the Heart Gallery, The Crawford Gallery in Pine Bush, Orange County Arts Council Open Studio Tours, Wallkill River School and Gallery Member Shows and as part of Susan Hope Fogel’s Experimental Watercolor workshop exhibits.

Solo shows so far have been at The Fairmount in Cleveland, Mane on Madison in New Jersey and Wallkill River School and Gallery of Art in Montgomery, NY.

Silvano is a member of Goshen Art League, Woodstock Art Association, Northeast Watercolor Society, Middletown Art Group, Wurtsboro Art Alliance, Washingtonville Art Society, Kent Art Association and is a Represented Artist at the Wallkill River School and Gallery.

Her focus in recent years has been documentation of her travels and the Musicians and Dancers that have inspired her.  Some of her subjects include Isadora Duncan and jazz luminaries such as McCoy Tyner, Sheila Jordan, John Scofield and Joe Lovano.

In addition, Silvano’s paintings have been featured as cover art for Silvano’s Standards recording “Indigo Moods” (Puerta Vallarta at Sunset) and Lovano’s “Quartet Classic! Live at Newport” (Fiery Sky) CD recordings.

She continues to perform as a vocalist and has a passion for sharing her knowledge of song interpretation and vocal improvisation in Concerts and Master Classes around the world in addition to painting an ever-expanding subject material of the world around her.
